MsTMIP Product Use Policy (EFFECTIVE 9/1/2018)

Summary

The MsTMIP experimental protocol, environmental driver data, and model simulation output are made freely available to the public and the scientific community. In order to ensure that MsTMIP researchers receive fair credit for their work, all users must cite the products properly, as described below. This policy applies to users both internal and external to the MsTMIP team.

Policy

Use of the MsTMIP experimental protocol, environmental driver data, and model simulation output (collectively termed “MsTMIP products”) conforms to the NASA Earth Science Data Policy and ORNL DAAC’s Data Product Citation Policy. The MsTMIP products are made freely available to the public and the scientific community (termed “MsTMIP users”) and are part of an extensive collaborative intercomparison effort (Huntzinger et al., 2013; Wei et al., 2014).

Though not required, the MsTMIP users are encouraged to inform the MsTMIP Core Team about the intent of the data use and analysis, which will ensure that the MsTMIP team have adequate fore−knowledge of the proposed research and thus the opportunity to contribute, as appropriate, to the use of MsTMIP products in the research project.

  1. CITATION: All products (e.g. manuscripts, reports, abstracts, presentations) relying on MsTMIP products should include proper citations to MsTMIP products, as described below, regardless of whether the MsTMIP team members are co-authors on the work.
  2. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT: All products (e.g. manuscripts, reports, abstracts, presentations) relying on MsTMIP products should include an acknowledgment, regardless of whether the MsTMIP team members are co-authors on the work. Specific wording for acknowledgment of the MsTMIP activity is provided below ("Wording for Acknowledgements of the MsTMIP project") and individual models is provided below ("References and Acknowledgement for Individual Models Participating MsTMIP").

Wording for Acknowledgements of the MsTMIP project

"Funding for the Multi-scale synthesis and Terrestrial Model Intercomparison Project (MsTMIP; https://nacp.ornl.gov/MsTMIP.shtml) activity was provided through NASA ROSES Grant #NNX10AG01A. Data management support for preparing, documenting, and distributing model driver and output data was performed by the Modeling and Synthesis Thematic Data Center at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL; https://nacp.ornl.gov), with funding through NASA ROSES Grant #NNH10AN681. Finalized MsTMIP data products are archived at the ORNL DAAC (https://daac.ornl.gov)."
