Model Evaluation

The MsTMIP will develop model evaluation tools using available observational data sets, through the use of automated quantitative performance measures based on the existing C-LAMP project (Hoffman et al. 2007; 2008). TBMs will be evaluated by direct comparison with observations, and by comparing simulated fluxes with those estimated with atmospheric transport inversions. Overall model evaluation will comprise of four components:

  • Model-observation comparison of NEE and component fluxes
  • TBM and inverse intermodel comparisons in terms of amplitude and phase of the seasonal cycle, mean annual estimates of NEE, and inter-annual variability
  • Comparison of transported TBM fluxes to atmospheric CO2 concentration measurements
  • TBM model-model comparison of NEE and component flux estimates
